A magical atmosphere and new faces
This Friday evening, The Night of Spectacles will take place on Kesselskade in Maastricht. It is a special celebration for members of Straight-Line Leadership and their partners. The members will gather to celebrate entrepreneurship and the key relationships that surround it. The 17th-century Augustijnenkerk will serve as the venue for the evening. This national monument in the city center is characterized by its high ceilings, enchanting windows, and magical ambiance.

After walking down the red carpet, guests receive their admission tickets at the church entrance. There’s no denying it: a show is taking place here tonight. With a glass of champagne in hand, guests enter the transformed Augustijnenkerk. Crystal chandeliers hang from the vaulted ceiling. The space is bathed in soft red light, with vintage circus props in every corner. Before entering the rest of the space, members can have their photo taken with their partner. The photographer is already waiting by a photo wall designed especially for the evening.
As waiters serve the appetizers, guests strike up conversations with one another. The group consists of a mix of members from various membership programs and their partners. “It’s great to see everyone again,” says Stephan van den Bos, a member and owner of Hygiënepapier.nl. “But I also see a lot of new faces. The group has definitely grown.”
The Entrepreneur's Canvas
A loud gong. Two female circus performers, who look as if they’ve stepped out of a fairy tale, step onto platforms on either side of the room. As the music begins, they swing their staffs rhythmically above their heads. The signal that the show is about to begin. The ringmaster steps onto the stage and begins to sing, with the performers at his side, dancing and gracefully twisting as they perform their acts.
After the opening act, a man in a tuxedo steps onto the stage. He is covered head to toe in glittering sequins. A top hat completes the look. “An artist is someone who performs their art in public,” says the greatest showman of the evening, Kristof Cuppens. Straight-Line Coach and managing partner by day, born entertainer by night. “And who are greater artists than those present here tonight?”

Kristof is referring to the entrepreneurs who choose their own greatness and growth day after day. The members of Straight-Line Leadership. And, of course, the life partners who support them in achieving their goals. “People have gathered here who are striving toward a single dream. A single project. Your canvas is the world around you. And your brushes are language, communication, and massive action. It’s incredible what the people in this room have already created and will continue to create. That’s why this evening is a tribute to you.” Kristof then invites all the guests to dinner.
Through Someone Else's Eyes
The cocktail reception has something for everyone. Guests can choose from a selection of delicious, high-quality dishes presented as circus-themed food. Attendees will come back for seconds so they can sample everything.
“Everything here is top-notch, ” says a Flemish woman sitting at a table in front of the stage. Her husband is a member and fetches a dish for her. “We decided to make a weekend of it in Maastricht,” she says. “With two small children, we don’t get away together very often. We thought this was the perfect opportunity.” It’s the first time she’s seen Kristof Cuppens in person. But it’s not the first time she’s heard him. “His voice and those of the other coaches regularly echo through the living room, ” she says with a laugh. “So I recognized him right away.”

Part of the Straight-Line Leadership membership includes videos and online meetings. In these sessions, Straight-Line Coaches provide practical insights and tools. So it’s not uncommon for partners to pick up on some of the work. “I think they’re teaching him valuable things, ” she says. “Before he joined the program, he said, ‘I’m already very “Straight-Line.” I tackle everything head-on right away.’ That was true, but he never saw things from someone else’s perspective. He didn’t listen and always did what he wanted. In business, but also when it came to me. Since he’s been working with Straight-Line Leadership, he’s become much more empathetic. He can view the issue through someone else’s eyes and, as a result, ultimately achieve much more. I think that’s positive.”
Help build a new future
In a dimly lit corner, a fortune-teller is at work. In the partially enclosed room, a crystal ball sits on the table and tarot cards lie ready. For those who dare. The theme of the evening is clear: mystery, mastery, and spectacle. The jazz band’s performance is interrupted several times by special shows, in which circus performers showcase their vocal and acrobatic skills. These are interspersed with speeches by Kristof, who provides context for the evening.
“What could be better than sharing your life with people with whom you’re building a dream together?” he asks the audience toward the end of the evening. “That’s what makes life worth living. To everyone here tonight: thank you. Thank you for being here, for your attention, for your lives, for who you are, and for who you will become. We, at Straight-Line Leadership, are honored to help build your future.” The applause erupts.
The fairy-tale ladies pass around trays piled with cards and envelopes, instructing guests to write a message for the four most important people in their lives. Later, the letters are collected and placed on the bus for the guests. Because all the glitz and glamour of The Night of Spectacles is lovely, but in the end, it’s just a bonus. The evening is all about the people. About being together. About the relationships that enable entrepreneurs to build a new future. And when the DJ starts playing, the guests take to the dance floor together.
